Turkey says it is committed to securing its southern border.

Tension has increased along Turkey’s border with northern Syria.

The Defense Ministry says its forces have hit about 500 targets in Kurdish-held areas since Sunday.

Turkey is also reporting casualties of SDF – Syrian Democratic Forces fighters.

The attacks followed a bombing in Istanbul on 13 November, for which the government blamed the banned Kurdish group, the PKK.

Ankara says it is targeting targets in Syria linked to the YPG, a Kurdish group with links to the PKK.

Since 2016, Turkish forces have conducted three ground operations to drive YPG fighters out of northern Syria.

Now President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is promising to launch another military operation.
